Penang - Pinang Peranakan Mansion

"The Peranakans, also known as the Babas and Nyonyas, was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, especially in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Malacca and Singapore) hence its other name, the Straits Chinese. Adopting selected ways of the local Malays and later, the colonial British, the Peranakans had created a unique lifestyle and customs which had not only left behind a rich legacy of antiques but its cultural influences like cuisine and language are still evident in Penang today."
Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Penang, one of those must visit places in Penang. so after the Blue Mansion, i went to this green-and-gold mansion. honestly, i went to this place only by accident. hahaha. after walking through the little India, i opened the city map again, and searching the sign of nearest tourist place, and voila, found out i was standing just two blocks away from this place. it was already 16:30, and this place only open from 09:30 until 17:00! i must be hurry! :D
the admission for an adult is RM 10.00. but you know what? i entered it by free. free?! yep, but i didn't know why. when i came by myself, there are two tourist groups already there in front of the entrance desk. but i didn't see they pay the admission either, and the staff are busy handling the groups. so i just entered this green building mansion, and captivated by it's beauty!
it has a main open atrium courtyard, superb beauty, eclectic style.
Chinese carved wood panels combined with English floor tiles and Scottish ironworks. this mansion has been restored to it's former glory of a stately home!

we also can visit the upper floor, where the family living hall, bedrooms, the traditional bridal room with typical Nyonya matrimonial bed and sewing room located. see the antiques brooches, hair pins, belts, and many women accessories. the other display are many antique chairs and tables, also the vintage clothes and shoes. particulary, i love the balconies and railings, it's so elegant. especially, the open atrium at the middle of this mansion!
it is written on the web:
"Videography and photography are not allowed within the mansion.
Any use of photographs or video clips for commercial purposes without the express written consent from the Management is strictly prohibited.
"
but like the admission, same case with the photography act. i can took many photos inside this mansion, just like the other tourists. hmmm.....

if you're going to George Town, Penang?
put this one as a must visit on your list! :)
